ABOUT THE TRAINER

JULIE FARRIS - BA, CBCC-KA, CPDT- KA

is Nashville's ONLY professional dog trainer certified in both dog training and behavior consulting through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.  Farris has
17 years of experience training dogs while specializing in shelter and rescue dogs for adoption.  In 2012,  she joined the behavior medicine department at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialists in Franklin, TN as a Veterinary Behavior Technician for animal behaviorist  Dr. Beth Strickler  .

In addition, Farris  is also a mentor trainer for local students enrolled in Animal Behavior College as well
as a board member, trainer and behavior consultant for
Bonaparte's Retreata popular dog rescue owned by country music legend Emmylou Harris.

Currently, Farris is working in conjunction with Bonapartes Retreat and the Davidson County Sheriff's Office as the lead trainer and consultant for the 2nd Chances Dog Training Prison Program being held at our local correctional facility housing female inmates.

Her passion for training started in South Florida over a decade ago.  After graduating from The Walter Turken Training For Adoption Program, she dedicated years to training shelter dogs at the Collier County Humane Society in Naples, Florida.  Farris successfully trained thousands of shelter dogs and counseled adopters through the program. In 2000, she and her training partner were recognized and honored for contributing over 500 hours of training in one year.  As part of the nationwide Turken Program, she was featured on Animal Planet 's "A Pet Story" and Dog Fancy magazine.

In addition to training at the Humane Society, Farris also enhanced her study of training and behavior by working hands-on with wolves, wolf-dogs, coyotes and foxes at The Shy Wolf  Sanctuary, a south Florida non-profit, federal and state licensed refuge for many wolves, exotics and various wildlife.

In 2002,  Farris moved to upstate New York where she had the privilege and honor of working as an assistant to master dog trainers Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson, authors of 10 books on dog behavior and training, including "Good Owners, Great Dogs," "Metro Dog" and "My Smart Puppy."   To have been mentored by such extraordinarily gifted trainers and educators  has been the highlight of her career.

Now Farris has brought her wealth of knowledge, skill and experience, coupled with the love of  training and pleasure of teaching owners, to  Rescue Me! Dog Training located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.  Services being offered include private sessions, board and train, as well as behavior consultations .

" In our clinic, Julie is my "go to" girl for behavior. She keeps me informed and current. She is a valuable resource for our clients and they have been very satisfied with her work"
